Trigger newsflashes from Slack messages

Turn messages posted in a Slack channel into Hoopla newsflashes automatically by adding a Slack trigger.

KB-03646 steps Last verified

Use this workflow when you want to automatically broadcast newsflashes to your team based on messages posted in a Slack channel. This lets you turn important Slack announcements into Hoopla newsflashes without manual re-entry.

  1. Open your Hoopla admin dashboard and navigate to Newsflash Settings.
  2. Click Add Trigger and select Slack as the trigger source.
  3. Choose the Slack channel you want to monitor for newsflash-worthy messages.
  4. Configure any keyword filters or message patterns that should trigger a newsflash (optional).
  5. Set the newsflash display duration and priority level.
  6. Click Save to activate the trigger.

Post a test message in the configured Slack channel. The message should appear as a newsflash in Hoopla within 30 seconds. Check your Hoopla screens or preview panel to confirm the newsflash displays correctly.

  • Newsflash doesn’t appear: Verify the Slack integration is still authorized. Go to Integrations > Slack and check the connection status. You may need to re-authenticate.
  • Wrong messages triggering: Review your keyword filters and adjust the trigger pattern to be more specific.
  • Delay longer than 2 minutes: Check your Slack workspace permissions. The Hoopla app must have read access to the monitored channel.

For initial Slack integration setup, see the related Slack configuration article below.
