Unpair a Square payment device from Displai

Disconnect a Square payment terminal from Displai by resetting or deleting its device code in Square, then removing it in Displai.

KB-01987 steps Last verified

Use this procedure when you need to disconnect a Square payment terminal from Displai. Common scenarios include replacing hardware, switching payment devices between locations, or permanently removing a device from your account.

  1. Log in to your Square account and navigate to Device Management under the Settings menu.
  2. In the Device Codes section, locate the device code associated with the payment terminal you want to unpair. The device code is typically linked to the nickname you assigned during setup.
  3. Select the device code you wish to unpair.
  4. Choose one of two options:
    • Reset – Resets the pairing code but keeps the device code in your account. Use this if you plan to re-pair the device later.
    • Delete – Completely removes the device code from your account. Use this if you no longer wish to use the device with Square.
  5. Log in to your Displai Dashboard.
  6. Navigate to the Screens page and locate the device.
  7. Select the device and click Remove Terminal to complete the unpairing process on Displai.

After completing the steps, verify that the device status is listed as “Unpaired” or “Inactive” in both the Square Dashboard under Device Management and in the Displai Dashboard.

If the device still appears as paired after following these steps, try the following:

  • Refresh both the Square Dashboard and Displai Dashboard to ensure status updates have propagated.
  • Confirm you selected the correct device code in Square Device Management that matches the terminal nickname.
  • If the device code does not appear in Square Device Management, or if you cannot complete the removal in Displai, contact support for further assistance.
