Add user metric newsflashes in Hoopla

Create a metric newsflash that automatically recognizes a user when they hit a performance threshold you set.

KB-024812 steps Last verified

Use metric newsflashes to automatically recognize users when they hit specific performance thresholds. For example, you can celebrate a sales rep when they close their first deal of the month or a support agent when they reach 100 resolved tickets. This article shows you how to create newsflashes that trigger based on individual user metrics.

  1. In the Configure tab, click Metric Newsflashes under Newsflashes in the left navigation. Alternatively, click the Newsflashes tile and then the Metric Newsflashes tile.

  2. Click Add.

  3. Enter a name for your metric newsflash. This name will be displayed to users in TV channels and in the Activity tab.

  4. Select the metric on which this newsflash will be based. For example, select your “Monthly Revenue” metric to recognize users for new revenue.

  5. For Value Type, select User.

  6. Set your trigger criteria.

  7. Choose how the newsflash will be posted:

    • Require Players to personalize — users must manually personalize the newsflash before it posts
    • Post automatically — the newsflash posts immediately with a message you specify
  8. Set repost permissions:

    • Only admins — only admins can repost fired newsflashes
    • All players and watchers — anyone can repost fired newsflashes
  9. Choose whether to award badges when the metric newsflash fires.

  10. In the Players section, specify which users are eligible to trigger this newsflash.

  11. Optionally, add watchers. Watchers will see metric newsflash events in the Activity tab of the web and mobile applications.

  12. Click Save.

After saving, the metric newsflash appears in your Metric Newsflashes list. When a user meets the trigger criteria you configured, the newsflash will fire according to the posting method you selected.

  • Newsflash not appearing in the list — Verify you clicked Save after completing all required fields.
  • Newsflash not firing when expected — Check that the trigger criteria match your metric’s data and that the selected users are in the Players list.
  • Users cannot see the newsflash — Confirm that watchers are configured if you want specific people to see the event in their Activity tab.
