Camera lighting requirements for Displai audience analytics

Set up even, frontal lighting and avoid backlighting so your camera can detect faces accurately for audience analytics.

Use this guide when setting up a camera for Displai audience analytics to ensure optimal face detection accuracy. Follow these lighting requirements if you are experiencing poor detection rates or inconsistent analytics data.

  1. Position your camera to receive frontal, homogeneous natural illumination.
  2. Verify that facial features are clearly visible in the camera’s preview feed.
  3. Check for and eliminate backlighting situations where bright light sources appear behind viewers.
  4. Adjust camera exposure settings to prevent over-saturation.
  5. Test detection accuracy by reviewing live analytics data for a 15-minute period.

Check the camera preview feed: if you can clearly see facial features in the input image, the analytics software should be able to interpret them. Review your Displai dashboard to confirm viewer counts are being recorded consistently.

If detection accuracy remains poor after adjusting lighting:

  • Reposition the camera to avoid direct sunlight or bright overhead lights in the frame
  • Move light sources to provide more even illumination across the viewing area
  • Verify your camera model is on the Displai compatibility list
  • Contact support if facial features are clearly visible in preview but detection still fails
