Add generic metric newsflashes in Hoopla
Set up a metric newsflash that fires on generic identifier values to celebrate company-wide milestones not tied to a player or team.
When to use this
Section titled “When to use this”Use generic metric newsflashes to celebrate company-wide milestones that don’t relate to individual players or teams. For example, you can trigger a newsflash when website traffic increases by 10% compared to last month or when the company hires its 500th team member.
-
Navigate to the Configure tab and click Metric Newsflashes under Newsflashes in the left navigation. Alternatively, click the Newsflashes tile and then the Metric Newsflashes tile.
-
Click Add.
-
Enter a name for your newsflash. This name will appear throughout the app (TV, web, and mobile) when the newsflash triggers.
-
Select the Metric that will trigger the newsflash. Choose a metric that contains generic identifier values.
-
Select Generic Identifier as your Value Type. This ensures the newsflash triggers when one or more generic values meet your criteria, rather than user or team values.
-
Set your Trigger Criteria to specify when the newsflash should be triggered.
-
Enter a default message. This message will appear throughout the app (TV, web, and mobile) when the newsflash triggers.
-
Decide who can repost the newsflash: only admins or all players and watchers. This controls who is allowed to repost a newsflash after it fires.
-
Select the Generic Identifiers that will cause this newsflash to trigger.
-
Optionally, select Watchers. The people you select here will be able to view triggered newsflashes in their Activity tab in the web and mobile apps.
-
Click Save.
Verify
Section titled “Verify”After saving, the generic metric newsflash appears in your Metric Newsflashes list. When the configured metric meets your trigger criteria for the selected generic identifiers, the newsflash will fire and appear across all Hoopla surfaces (TV, web, and mobile).
If it doesn’t work
Section titled “If it doesn’t work”- Newsflash doesn’t appear in the list: Verify you clicked Save in step 11. If the newsflash wasn’t saved, repeat the configuration steps.
- Newsflash never triggers: Confirm the metric you selected contains generic identifier values and that those values are being updated with data that meets your trigger criteria.
- Wrong people see the newsflash: Review your Watchers selection in step 10. Only selected watchers can view triggered newsflashes in their Activity tab.
- Repost permissions aren’t working as expected: Check your selection in step 8. If you selected “only admins,” regular players and watchers cannot repost the newsflash.
