How the Real Time Visitor InSight Worker tracks engagement
Understand how the Real Time Visitor InSight Worker picks the most engaged viewer, measures attention time, and reports demographics.
When to use this
Section titled “When to use this”This article explains how Displai’s Visitor InSight Worker analyzes real-time camera data to determine who is engaging with your screen and what demographic information is available. Use this reference when you need to understand how the system identifies the most engaged viewer, how attention time is calculated, or what demographic data points are tracked.
How it works
Section titled “How it works”The Real Time Visitor InSight Worker evaluates data from the past second to determine what content to show on screen. It continuously tracks two categories of information:
Primary tracking:
- The person closest to the screen who has been paying attention the longest, compared to others nearby
Aggregated demographics:
- Gender and age distribution of all viewers within tracking range
Input properties
Section titled “Input properties”These properties control how the system evaluates viewer attention:
| Property | Default | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Max Distance From Camera | 100 cm | The distance from screen at which the system starts evaluating attention |
| Min Attention Time | 1000 ms | The cumulative time a person must pay attention before rules begin evaluating |
| Tracking Buffer | 1000 ms | How long the system waits before considering a temporarily unrecognized viewer gone |
Output properties
Section titled “Output properties”Person Paying Most Attention
Section titled “Person Paying Most Attention”The system outputs three properties about the viewer with the longest attention time:
- Total Attention Time – Cumulative attention time for the person with the largest face within range who has met the minimum attention threshold. This time accumulates even if the person looks away briefly, as long as the Tracking Buffer has not expired.
- Gender – The detected gender of the person paying the most attention
- Age – The detected age bracket of the person paying the most attention
Gender percentages
Section titled “Gender percentages”Percentages of all people within Max Distance From Camera:
- Male Percentage
- Female Percentage
- Undetermined Gender Percentage
Age percentages
Section titled “Age percentages”Percentage of all viewers within range falling into these brackets:
- 0–12
- 13–17
- 18–21
- 22–25
- 26–34
- 35–44
- 45–54
- 55–64
- 65+
Age by gender percentages
Section titled “Age by gender percentages”The system calculates age distribution within each gender category (Male, Female, Undetermined), using the same age brackets listed above.
Tracking behavior
Section titled “Tracking behavior”Continuous tracking
Section titled “Continuous tracking”When a person (Person A) is being tracked for Total Attention Time but can no longer be recognized, the system may identify another person (Person B) who meets the attention conditions. The Tracking Buffer prevents premature switching when Person A is still present but temporarily unrecognizable due to lighting, angle, or other factors.
Memory limits
Section titled “Memory limits”All attention tracking data resets after 1 hour to accommodate memory limitations. This is expected behavior and does not indicate a problem with your system.
