Troubleshooting 101 and best practices

Keep your ScreenRay running smoothly with setup, networking, and best-practice tips, plus steps to try if basic fixes fail.

Start here for ScreenRay setup, networking, and best practices to keep your display running smoothly.

  • Initial setup recommendation. Use an iPhone, iPad, Windows, or Mac laptop to connect your ScreenRay to the internet for the first time. Samsung phones and tablets are not recommended.
  • Use 2.4GHz WiFi. WiFi networks operating on 2.4GHz provide more reliable connections at longer distances.
  • Reconnect after network changes. If your WiFi network name, password, or location changes, you’ll need to reconnect your ScreenRay. You can disconnect and reconnect the power adapter to restart it and enter setup mode.
  • Use Ethernet as an alternative. Connect your ScreenRay to the internet via Ethernet using any standard USB-to-Ethernet adapter to bypass WiFi connectivity issues.
  • Keep the ScreenRay powered on. ScreenRays are designed to run continuously and use minimal power. You can set the device to reboot at a specific time daily if needed.
  • Keep your WiFi network powered on. Your ScreenRay needs consistent WiFi to receive the latest content and software updates. If you turn off power to your location overnight, ensure the router is online and broadcasting before restarting the ScreenRay.
  • Keep the ScreenRay cool. The maximum operating temperature is 110°F (43°C). Keep it out of direct sunlight when possible.
  • Use the included power adapter. Using other power adapters can cause frequent shutdowns and other problems.
  • Reboot to resolve issues. If you see an error message or are prompted to rejoin WiFi, disconnect and reconnect the power adapter while the device is still plugged into the TV. This forces a restart and reconnection.

If the steps above don’t solve your issue:

  1. Press and hold the power button until the blue light turns off. Let go immediately when the light turns off (if your device has a bumper over the power button, use a pen or paperclip to press the button).
  2. Unplug the device from HDMI and power.
  3. Plug the device back into HDMI without using an HDMI extender.
  4. Plug the power back in. The blue light should turn on. Wait 90 seconds for the ScreenRay to reboot.

If none of these solutions work, contact our support team with details about the issue and all the troubleshooting steps you’ve tried. In some cases, a replacement device may be needed.
