Power BI <> Hoopla

Overview and Background

Displai is introducing Power BI integration within the Hoopla platform. This integration allows users to:

1. Map Power BI data to Hoopla metrics for deep insights.

2. Display Power BI reports on Hoopla channels.

This feature is ideal for enterprise clients, who need advanced data visualization and metric analysis, further improving their employee and team performance tracking.

Getting Started Prerequisites

  • An active Hoopla account with administrative access.
  • A Power BI Pro account with proper credentials and necessary access to datasets and reports.
  • A Power BI integration listed under Integrations in your Hoopla account. (If you do not see this integration, please reach out to Displai support).

Installation and Setup

1. Activate the Integration:

  • Ensure the Power BI integration is available under Integrations in your Hoopla account. (If you do not see this integration, please reach out to Displai support).

2. Connect Power BI to Hoopla:

  • Select Power BI from the list of available integrations;
  • Enter your Power BI credentials to authorize Hoopla to access your Power BI data.

3. Map Power BI Data to Hoopla Metrics

  • Once connected, select the Power BI dataset you wish to use for EX metrics mapping. Ensure the dataset type is “Semantic model” and verify that the table names in Hoopla correspond exactly to the Power BI table names.
  • Important: Hoopla uses email as the unique identifier, so all datasets must include an email field for proper mapping.
  • You can optionally apply filters to refine the dataset fields before mapping.
  • After the Power BI data has been retrieved, you can map it to relevant Hoopla entities like metrics.
  • Select the appropriate columns (e.g., Employee Email) for mapping. You can aggregate data using operations such as sum, average, or count to generate specific metrics.
  • Choose your desired sync interval, define the metric name, and hit Save. The new metric will now be created in Hoopla.

4. Display Power BI Reports on Hoopla Channels

  • Navigate to the Channels page and enter the channel setup.
  • Drag and drop the Power BI report step into the channel lineup.
  • From the dropdown menu, select the Power BI report you want to display.
  • Configure the report’s display settings, such as the duration for which the report will be visible and the transition effects between steps.
  • Preview your channel step to ensure everything looks correct, and don’t forget to Save your progress.

Common Issues and Troubleshooting

Issue: Data not syncing from Power BI.

Solution: Verify that your Power BI credentials are correct and ensure proper authorization.

Issue: Table names not listed when mapping data.

Solution: For non-push datasets, you’ll need to manually enter the table name in the configuration step.

Issue: Power BI report not displaying on the channel.

Solution: Ensure that the correct report has been selected and the display settings are properly configured.
