Newsflash Events on Displai Screens

Newsflash Events on Displai Screens

Overview

Newsflash Events allow you to send real-time alerts to your Displai screens running Hoopla channels app within a playlist. This feature ensures your team never misses important announcements, even when Hoopla is sharing screen time with other apps in your playlist.

How It Works

When you trigger a Newsflash Event, the system intelligently handles delivery based on what's currently displaying on your screen:

  • If Hoopla is actively displaying: The Newsflash appears immediately.
  • If another app is displaying: The Newsflash is queued and will display as soon as Hoopla becomes active in the playlist rotation.

This means your important announcements always get seen - they're never lost, just smartly timed.

What to Expect

Newsflash Event Timing

The time between triggering a Newsflash Event and seeing it on screen depends on your playlist configuration:

  • If Hoopla is currently active, the Newsflash Event displays right away.
  • If another app is active, the Newsflash Event displays when Hoopla's app turns up in the playlist.

Example: If your playlist includes Hoopla and a Weather app, each set to display for 30 seconds, the maximum delay before your Newsflash Event appears would be approximately 30 seconds.

Multiple Newsflash Events

If several Newsflash Events are triggered while Hoopla is in the background, they'll queue up and display in sequence when Hoopla becomes active.

How queued Newsflash Events display:

  • Newsflash Events play one after another during Hoopla's display window.
  • If there isn't enough time to show all queued Newsflash Events in one cycle, the remaining ones will display during Hoopla's next turn in the playlist.

Example:

  • Hoopla display duration: 30 seconds
  • Each Newsflash Event duration: 15 seconds
  • Newsflash Events triggered: 3

In this scenario, 2 Newsflash Events would display immediately when Hoopla becomes active, and the third would display during the next playlist cycle.

Channel Step Behavior

Hoopla intelligently manages your channel content to work seamlessly within your playlist timing:

  • The app calculates available time and displays as many channel steps as will fit within the allotted duration.
  • If a Newsflash Event is triggered near the end of Hoopla's display window, it will play the Newsflash Event before transitioning to the next app - ensuring your alert is never missed.
  • On the next cycle, your channel picks up where it left off, creating a continuous viewing experience.

Tips for Best Results

  1. Consider your playlist timing: Shorter durations for other apps in your playlist mean faster Newsflash Event delivery.
  1. Plan for high-volume events: If you anticipate sending multiple Newsflash Events in quick succession, ensure Hoopla has enough display time in your playlist to show them all.
  1. Account for transitions: Custom transitions between channel steps may slightly affect timing calculations.
